Laser Capture Microdissection
Epistem Pharmacogenomics are experts in isolating specific cell populations from tissue sections using Laser Capture Microdissection (LCM) and performing subsequent gene expression or DNA genotyping analysis.
The combination of LCM coupled with our ability to assess very limited quantities of RNA can be used for biomarker, target discovery and safety assessment applications.
We conduct gene expression analysis on cells isolated from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) and fresh frozen samples. Our experts have developed highly sensitive proprietary techniques for the analysis of these samples and will provide guidance to customers when planning LCM studies to ensure optimal gene expression profiling.

We have utilised our LCM capabilities to support fibrosis research programmes in a number of tissues including lung, liver and kidney. We have deployed these technologies to enable identification of key pathways and regulators by comparing fibrotic foci with normal comparator regions.
We have assessed multiple clinical cohorts to gain an understanding of inter-foci variation, inter-patient variation as well as the commonality and uniqueness of the biology underpinning fibrosis.
Our high throughput LCM capabilities allow for generation of rich and deep transcriptional datasets and facilitate the validation or invalidation of target pathways in drug development programs.
