Plucked Hair

Ex vivo hair culture

Epistem's proprietary ex vivo culture technique is highly reproducible and can be used to monitor the effects of novel therapeutic agent exposure on gene and protein expression in hair providing valuable pre-clinical proof of concept data.

Hair is plucked, transferred to maintenance medium and exposed to the novel therapeutic agent. Effects are monitored using Epistem’s gene expression analysis technology or by IHC. Gene signatures in response to therapeutic agents are determined at the preclinical stage and confirmed in preclinical in vivo or in clinical samples. Candidate biomarkers/panels are identified and validated in our GCLP-compliant histology and pharmacogenomics labs.
